Reception issues:
We do a lot of work for customers where they are experiencing interference – this interference can come from mobile phone towers, emergency services towers, community radio stations or Radio relay stations. There are still many frequencies available for use that sit close to the current TV channel frequencies which can result in picture break up and pixelation. These frequencies can be used without licensing so there is no way to trace that user to get them to change their frequency.
While we can, in 99% of cases, install frequency band pass filters to block the unwanted interference, unfortunately there are times where the frequency in question is within the same frequency band required for your TV service. While we can look for other transmitters in your area, we can not always guarantee we can block these frequencies entirely. Luckily it is a very small percentage of households affected and usually only one channel affected. With the introduction of Smart TV’s and devices there is always the option of Catch Up TV on offer.
WiFi Solutions:
There are options available around the coast for NBN upgrades to premises. I get emails regularly from my internet service provider letting me know that my area is now available for a free NBN upgrade. So if you are still on the old copper line relying on patchy modem WiFi and you are getting the same emails I do, then it might be time to take them up on the offer and get connected to the NBN network via FTTP (Fiber To The Premises).
Now as a rule, the NBN service Tech will only bring the line to a central hub in your house (usually in the garage) and connecting the rest of your house is up to you.
You can choose to hardwire your equipment by installing data points throughout the house or you can install WiFi access points at strategic locations. We can help you with either of these solutions. Just give our office a call on 5479199 to have a chat and book a Technician to give you an estimate.
Some things to look out for to save you future expenses:
We have covered rusty equipment in previous newsletters and while we don’t want to keep going over old news it is something that we come across regularly. Old, unused antennas can lead to problems, there are still plenty of old Brisbane antennas or Analog Foxtel antenna’s on 10′-15′ masts out there that are no longer being used. These can fall unexpectedly and cause damage to your roof leading to unnecessary and costly roof repairs.
Antenna’s aren’t the only thing that get left on the roof unused. Unfortunately satellite dishes are not immune to rust and can cause problems over time if left for too long. And you don’t always see the damage happening because the dish is located out of sight.
