Here’s the full version of our August newsletter
Dear Loyal Customer,
Welcome to our August 2025 newsletter.
Feels like every time we get used to one setup, something changes – whether it’s streaming services, Wi-Fi setups, or even your remote-control functions changing. This edition, we’re diving into some big changes across Starlink, Free-to-Air channels, and home/business data management. So, grab your coffee – and let’s get into it.
Starlink Surcharge & Subscription Changes
Starlink continues to be a game-changer for remote and rural internet – but due to high demand across the Sunshine Coast and other regional zones, we’re now seeing a “Demand Surcharge” applied to new orders. If you’re thinking of signing up, we recommend doing it directly through Starlink, not a third party, to avoid delays and to keep in control of your subscription.
Starlink Gen3 – What’s New?
The latest Gen3 Starlink dish – there are some changes you’ll want to be aware of: A separate Starlink Ethernet Adapter is no longer required if you want a wired connection to your router, network switch, or devices. There are now 2 x ethernet ports on the Gen3 router.
The Gen 3 dish is slightly different to the Gen 2, which can affect mounting. We’re staying stocked with the new Gen3 adapters and mounts. If you’re upgrading or installing for the first time, we can help make sure everything works together properly – no mess, no last-minute surprises.
Starlink Mini – Compact & Caravan-Ready
For Travelers, off-grid setups or anyone wanting a more portable satellite solution, the Starlink Mini is finally here! It is:
Compact enough for caravans, 4WD setups, or smaller homes
Lower power usage (ideal for solar setups)
Easier to transport and store
Check out the Starlink website for more information about costing and set up.
Disclaimer: We do not supply the equipment or offer roof mount installation for the Starlink mini kit on motorhomes, caravans or RVs. We can assist with the setup of your kit once it arrives – to ensure this is working correctly and ready to go for your next trip!
Free-To-Air Channel Upgrade – What You Need to Know
Free-to-Air broadcasters are doing some digital housekeeping, and that means a channel upgrade is underway. Some channels have already moved and are now in full HD MPEG 4 format – and almost all Free-to-Air integrations via Foxtel boxes are now in MPEG4 format.
If you are seeing:
Missing channels
Sound but no picture
Error messages like “channel not available”
Then it might be time to update your system. For older TVs, you’ll need either, a new TV with MPEG4 decoding or a Set-Top-Box to get back to full functionality for your existing TV. We’re happy to come out and assess what’s needed – we always carry with us new Set-Top-Boxes so we can solve the issue for you on the spot.
Winegard Antennas in Caravans – Still Reliable?
Winegard antennas are still our preferred antenna for travelling, as they can receive both Vertical and Horizontal transmissions due to the two antennas on the one mast. They can receive UHF and VHF frequencies, and when it is not in use, the antenna lies flat on your caravan out of sight.
While the Winegard is our preferred antenna option for travelling, it’s important to note that most of the Sunshine Coast’s holiday & caravan parks are notorious for having some degree of reception issues. Be it 4G interference, poor signal areas, or ‘mush’ signal – these all affect your caravan antenna reception capabilities, including the Winegard’s.
If you have signal issues, give our office a call on 54791999 and we can talk you through the known issues before sending someone out.
Streaming as a Solution.
There are streaming options for all live TV channels and an upgrade to your internet connectivity may be your best option for seamless FTA channel access while travelling. We can setup a Wi-Fi network and connect all your devices to the internet, including your TV’s, for streaming live TV.
Need Better Data Management at Home or Work?
We’re seeing more homes and small businesses investing in professional data setups – and for good reason.
Whether you’re working from home, running a growing business, or just want your technology neatly organised, a network switch and rack setup can:
Improve connection reliability
Simplify device management
Clean up messy cabling
Allow for seamless installation of future upgrades like Security, Streaming, or Smart Home Technology.
We supply and install custom racks and switches, tailored to your setup. It’s one of those upgrades you’ll wonder how you ever lived without.
